The Case of Ethem Sarısülük


Ethem Sarısülük was shot at his head by the police officer Ahmet Şahbaz during the Gezi Park protests staged in Ankara on 1 June 2013. On 1 June 203 at about 17:00-17-54, Ethem Sarısülük was among persons who were next to the pool in Güvenpark next to the metro entrance on Milli Müdafaa Avenue. The defendant police officer Ahmet Şahbaz was also among police officers intervening to the group including Erthem Sarısülük. Ahmet Şahbaz allegedly fired three times on the grounds that the protesters were throwing stones againt the police officers including him. One of the bullet hit Ethem Sarısülük’s head and he was hospitalised. Afer being in intensive care for 14 days, he died on 14 June 2013.
